On March 28, 2017, Dr. Camille Galap, the Chancellor of the Université des Antilles, Superintendent (“Recteur”) of Education in Guadeloupe (French West Indies), special representative of the French Secretary for Education, traveled to Louisiana and visited at McKinley and Westdale middle schools.
Mr. Galap, who reports directly to the French Minister (Secretary) of Education in Paris, is a high-ranking official. It is the first time in many years that a “Recteur” travelled to Louisiana and not to Washington. He met different government officials including the Superintendent of Education forLouisiana, Mr. John White, the Governor and Lt. Governor.
Recteur Galap is in charge of all schools (executives, teachers, students, as well as pedagogic strategy and overview from 3 years old to Phd Students) of Guadeloupe. The main goals of his mission to Louisiana were:
– The development of students and teachers exchanges btw. Louisiana and Guadeloupe;
– Creole language and culture in Louisiana, along with CODOFIL;
– Possible partnerships in the tourism and hospitality industry and Film production, through training and education.
